Appreciation Post: Jonas Åkerlund

A Swedish film and music video director caught my interest the very first time I saw the 10 minute music video for Duran Duran's "Girl Panic", in which the band members are portrayed and surrounded by supermodels in a glamourous London hotel.

A typical Veronica move would be to Google the video and find the director's page on Wikipedia. There's not a video there that you can't have seen. If it wasn't Lady Gaga's Paparazzi or Telephone, then maybe it was Maroon 5's Moves Like Jagger? Those are just the mainstream songs. And he's not just limited to music videos, but he also has a full-length feature film and my latest favourite, a short film spawned from The Smashing Pumpkins video for Try, Try, Try.

A beautiful story of a couple who are drug addicts on the streets of Stockholm, doing things "to get money, to get high, to forget the things they did, to get money to get high"

Complete with a sad, meaningful ending, it's a wonder why this wasn't highly recognized or nominated for anything.
